Lake Murray Family Vacation Home Renovation

70’s to Chic

This client envisioned a warm, welcoming home centered around an open kitchen and entertaining family and friends.

Our client’s Lake Murray vacation home had served as a gathering place for their family over weekends and holidays for many decades. Despite beautiful lake views and sturdy “bones,” the property was stuck in the 70s, complete with wood paneling and green shag carpet. In addition to the outdated aesthetics, there were some functionality issues that the client asked Phase One to address.

First, the youngest members of the family shared the basement bunk room. However, they had to climb the stairs every time they wanted to use the bathroom, which was located on the main level, sometimes waking up sleeping adults during late hours. In turn, anyone wanting to use the laundry had to go to the basement.

Phase One Architectural Designer Claire Guza redesigned the layout, swapping the downstairs laundry with a new hotel-style bathroom. Additionally, she completely rearranged the space that used to be the former primary bath and guest bath, switching it to an updated layout with a nice-sized walk-in closet. She also located a new laundry on the main floor that has direct access to the closet and the hall for other family members. The client also opted to completely update the kitchen and refresh the two main living spaces, adding a wet bar to the area facing the lake.

After Phase One completed the floor plan design, Morris Homebuilders handled the construction, and Haven and Harbor led the interior design. Now, this beautiful but comfortable lake home will continue to serve the family for years to come.

“We have worked with Phase One twice now. Both experiences went very smoothly. They answered questions we didn’t even know to ask. Highly recommend!” – Nikki M.
