Historic Home Gets An Eclectic Makeover

Beaming & Bold

This full home renovation opened the layout and highlighted historical features while adding modern finishes, colors, and textures.

Our clients found a lovely historic home in the Oakwood Court Historical district, and wanted to bring it up to date. We reorganized the first floor to have a more efficient layout by removing the existing laundry and bathroom near the kitchen, and created a glamorous bar area. New cabinetry, fresh fixtures, and a hidden doorway to the basement adorn the kitchen. Double archways and a brick barrel vault ceiling connect this space to the living area. We created additional space across from the bar to include a new mudroom, half bath and laundry area.

Additionally, the existing formal living room, and adjacent rooms were converted to create a master suite for aging in place. The master bathroom includes a new steam shower, and used existing arched built ins to create space for the new his and hers vanities. Lastly, the upstairs bedroom and bathroom were reconfigured to create a more spacious jack and jill bathroom area.

The homeowner’s interior designer applied bright colors, wall papers, and unique  light fixtures throughout the entire home, bringing the project to life. Examples include the herringbone brick flooring on the screened porch, grass cloth wallpaper in the dining area, and antiqued glass backsplash in the bar.

We have used Phase One/Azalea Building twice and each time we avoided the common nightmares I hear my friends complain about in remodeling. The entire team is a pleasure to work with.
